WHO IS JALEWIS SOLOMON
Jalewis Solomon is a four-star Athlete from Schley County High School in Ellaville, GA. The 6-foot1, 185-pound speedster originally committed to Auburn on August 5, 2023, but decommitted on October 10, 2023. Solomon then took an official visit to South Carolina this past weekend and committed to the Gamecocks while on that visit. Solomon is listed as a three-star prospect by On3 and 247 Sports while ESPN and Rivals have him listed as a four-star prospect.
WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF THE COMMITMENT FOR SOUTH CAROLINA
Solomon plays both wide receiver and cornerback at Schley County. So the commitment of Solomon gives South Carolina either their third wide receiver or their second cornerback. On3 ranks South Carolina’s recruiting class number 19 overall and number 10 in the SEC. According to reports, South Carolina is recruiting Solomon as a cornerback.
HOW QUICKLY CAN JALEWIS SOLOMON CONTRIBUTE TO SOUTH CAROLINA?
No matter which position Solomon chooses to play at South Carolina he may see the field quickly. It seems his fastest path to the field may be at receiver as three of the Gamecocks’ six receivers on the two-deep roster are seniors. If Solomon plays corner at South Carolina, the path to the field may be a bit tougher. Of the three corner positions, the two-deep roster consists of three freshmen, one junior, and two seniors. However, after committing to the Gamecocks, Solomon spoke with Hale McGranahan of The Big Spur. Solomon let him know that he expects to see the field as a freshman, particularly at corner. “What stood out the most about South Carolina to me is their development with all their players and how they aren’t scared at all to play their freshmen,” Solomon said to McGranahan. “They see me as a lockdown corner and they see me playing as a true freshman.” With the success of Colorado’s Travis Hunter as a top two-way player, Solomon does give head coach Shane Beamer an option to play both wide receiver and cornerback.
SCOUTING JALEWIS SOLOMON
Jalewis Solomon is a speedy receiver with good hands. When he gets outside his speed allows him to burst past the secondary. Solomon is good at both short routes and the deep ball. His speed is more visible in receiver screens where he can use that speed and shiftiness to get into the open field. As a cornerback, Solomon has very good closing speed in defending short passes. He possesses very good tackling ability, which is not often a trait for corners. He is a ball hawk who has good vision and uses his receiver abilities on the defensive side. As a junior in 2022, Solomon had 86 catches for 1,210 yards and 10 touchdowns as a receiver and 29 tackles, four passes broken up, and three interceptions as a cornerback. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown on a 12-3 team that played for the Class A Division II championship. In his senior season, Solomon has eight tackles, three interceptions, and four pass breakups on defense. On offense, he has 30 catches for 595 yards and eight touchdowns.
