WHO IS GEORGE MCINTYRE
George McIntyre is a five-star quarterback from Brentwood Academy in Nashville, TN. The 6-foot-5-inch, 185-pound gun slinger chose the Volunteers over Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Michigan. McIntyre also plays basketball for Brentwood Academy and is the nephew of current Florida International head coach Mike McIntyre. On3 Sports lists McIntyre as a five-star prospect while 247 Sports, Rivals, and ESPN list him as a four-star prospect.
WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF THE COMMITMENT FOR TENNESSEE
The commitment of McIntyre gives Tennessee its sixth commitment for the 2025 class, which is ranked fifth in the SEC and 10th overall. McIntyre gives head coach Josh Heupel a top-tier quarterback for the third straight recruiting class. Presumed 2024 Tennessee starter Nico Iamaleava was a top five quarterback nationally in the 2023 class while Jake Merklinger was a top-ten-ranked quarterback in the 2024 class.
HOW QUICKLY CAN GEORGE MCINTYRE CONTRIBUTE AT TENNESSEE?
With the quarterback room as stacked as Heupel has made it, the ability for McIntyre to see the field early would depend on a lot of “ifs”. If Iamaleava ends up being a bust and if Merklinger transfers out due to a numbers game, then McIntyre may see the field early. The chances of Iamaleava being a bust, however, are slim. His performance in the Citrus Bowl would not lead many to believe that he is destined for a major fall. But if McIntyre is patient his time in Josh Heupel’s offense will come.
SCOUTING GEORGE MCINTYRE
George McIntyre is a good-sized quarterback who will need to add some bulk to his frame over the next year. He has a strong arm and is deadly accurate with his passes. While not necessarily a typical dual-threat quarterback McIntyre is mobile for his size and elusive in the pocket. He is good at keeping his eyes downfield while scrambling. McIntyre throws with a fast, seemingly effortless motion and has good ball placement. He will, however, need to cut down on the interceptions as he threw 12 in his junior year.
