The LSU Tigers and head coach Brian Kelly continue to reel in players in the 2025 recruiting class. According to On3Recruits, the Tigers landed 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback Kade Phillips. Phillips had previously been committed to the Texas Longhorns but ended up flipping his commitment.
His commitment was led by Tigers secondary coach Corey Raymond and Tigers defensive coordinator Blake Baker. Phillips is also known for being a track star as well as a four-star football recruit.
Phillips was a Texas 6A bronze medalist in the long jump as a junior with a state meet leap of 23-11.5. He also eclipsed 24 feet a couple times which also included a 24-7.5 jump that was his season best.
Phillips in High School
Phillips went to high school in Missouri City, Texas. All throughout his high school tenure, he showed a lot of good work with his hands. He was getting a lot of interceptions and knocking balls down and breaking up passes. He was also really good with man coverage and staying with the receiver so he couldn't bring the ball in.
LSU 2025 Recruiting Class
Phillips joins an already loaded recruiting class that the Tigers have put together for the 2025 season. According to 247Sports, the Tigers 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 3 in the nation and has 24 total commits.
The recruiting class contains three five-stars, 11 four-stars—including Phillips—and 10 three-stars.
Hudson Standish, a 247Sports National Analyst, gave a lowdown on who Phillips is as a player," Standish said. "High upside defensive back who offers positional flexibility and owns one of the best track and field profiles in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Has flashed the ability to mirror receivers as a man-to-man defender in combine settings but isn't consistently sticky. Can quickly turn and locate the football in the deeper third as a zone defender. Still has some technical aspects of his game to clean up entering his senior season but has enormous NFL draft upside."
Standish also compared Phillips to current Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Zyon McCollum.
