Who is DeShawn Stewart?

DeShawn Stewart is a four-star defensive back from Wayne, New Jersey. He is 6-foot-1-inch and 185 pounds. The 2025 DB chose Ohio State over South Carolina, Penn State, Wisconsin, and many more. DeShawn Stewart is a teammate of four-star wide receiver commit De'Zie Jones. Stewart in his high school career thus far has 82 tackles, 25 passes defended and 3 interceptions according to Max Preps.

What is the impact on Ohio State?

Stewart's commitment provides the Buckeyes with an athlete who's played safety and corner within the 2025 class. Stewart has displayed an aggressive and physical style of play that could be utilized anywhere in the secondary. He has shown a knack for getting his hands on the ball as shown by his 25 passes defended and 3 interceptions. Stewart is also a great tackler in the open field. Ohio State could lose up to 3 starters at the Corner positions Denzel Burke, Jordan Hancock, and Davidson Igbinson. At the Safeties position, the Buckeyes may need to replace 3 safeties as Lathan Ransom, Sonny Styles, and Ja'Had Carter could leave the program next year as well. I would look for Stewart to compete at safety or slot corner as the depth will be needed.

Cornerback coach Tim Walton has done a tremendous job recruiting recently with commitments from two top 5 corners in the 2025 class and another ranked within the top 10 at the cornerback position. Expect the Buckeyes to continue to recruit the defensive back position with urgency as they may need up to 6 or 7 commitments within this class.
