The Auburn Tigers and head coach Hugh Freeze continue to bring in players in the 2025 recruiting class. According to On3Recruits, the Tigers landed 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive lineman Nate Marshall.
Marshall previously committed to the Michigan Wolverines, but Auburn flipped the commitment.
Auburn defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams led his recruitment. Marshall also is known for playing basketball. He helped his school win a regional title as a 10th grader, scoring 15 points in the championship game.
Marshall in High School
Marshall went to high school in Oak Park, Ill. Throughout his high school career, he showed a lot of good work closing gaps and getting into the backfield. He constantly pushed opposing offensive linemen back into the quarterback's laps, frequently racking up quarterback sacks.
In the 2022 season, Marshall was a two-way player, getting snaps on offense as the wildcat quarterback. He was named Chicago Catholic League Defensive Player of the Year, receiving an Illinois High School Football Coaches Association (IHSFCA) All-State Honorable Mention.
In 2023, Marshall was named Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He also tallied 38 tackles, including tackles for loss. He also had 6 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and blocked 4 kicks. He caught 4 touchdown passes when playing on offense.
Allen Trieu, a 247Sports national recruiting analyst, gave the following breakdown of Marshall as a player:
"Can change direction and chase down plays. Shows motor and does not give up on plays. Shifts from outside to inside and has played up and down the line. Long-term projection is most likely as a five-tech but that depends on physical development. Combo of athleticism and versatility make him a high-end prospect. Has to continue developing from a technical standpoint with his hands and get stronger, but he looks like he will be a starter for a high-major program and has the baseline tools to play beyond college."
Auburn 2025 Recruiting Class
Marshall joins an already jam-packed recruiting class that Auburn has put together for the 2025 season. According to 247Sports, the Tigers' 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 5 in the nation and has 23 total commits.
The recruiting class contains two five-stars, 12 four-stars (including Marshall) and nine three-stars.
