Michigan has secured a significant commitment for the interior offensive line, who promises to bring both talent and versatility to the Wolverines after four-star OL Kaden Strayhorn committed on June 24.

Who is Kaden Strayhorn?

Strayhorn, a four-star offensive lineman from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., is a highly sought-after recruit. As the son of Jason Strayhorn, a former Michigan State defensive tackle, he has a strong connection to the Spartans.

He originally attended Novi Central Catholic before transferring to IMG Academy ahead of his sophomore season. Strayhorn had received offers from several top programs, including Michigan State, Ohio State and LSU. The major recruiting services have given him high marks: On3 Sports and 247Sports have him listed as a three-star whereas ESPN and Rivals list him as a four-star prospect.

What Is the Impact for Michigan?

Strayhorn's commitment adds significant strength to Michigan's 2025 recruiting class, which now includes 10 recruits. Of these, Strayhorn is the second offensive lineman, bolstering a critical position group for the Wolverines. According to On3 Sports, Michigan’s recruiting class is ranked 29th nationally and No. 7 in the Big Ten Conference. Strayhorn’s addition, particularly his versatility to play multiple positions on the offensive line, adds depth and flexibility to Michigan’s roster.

How Quickly Can Strayhorn Contribute?

Evaluating Michigan’s current roster provides insight into how quickly Strayhorn can make an impact. According to the latest depth chart from Ourlads, Michigan has experienced players in their offensive line, but there is room for a talented newcomer to earn playing time, especially at the center position, where Strayhorn plans to play.

Current centers are red shirt juniors Greg Crippen and Raheem Anderson alongside freshman Jake Guarnera. Given his training at IMG Academy and his strong technical skills, Strayhorn could potentially see the field as a freshman. However, due to the higher level of competition, his first year might also serve as a developmental period to adjust and bulk up.

Scouting Strayhorn

Strayhorn stands out for his physical attributes and technical prowess. At 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, he has the frame and athleticism to dominate in the trenches. His agility and quick reactions allow him to effectively counter defensive linemen and adapt to various blocking schemes. Strayhorn’s foundation in blocking techniques is solid, enabling him to create running lanes and protect the quarterback efficiently.

However, there are areas where Strayhorn can improve. Despite his potential, he may need to develop more consistency in his performances. Additionally, he might need to add bulk to compete against larger, stronger defensive linemen in college. His relatively recent transfer to IMG Academy means he is still acclimating to the heightened level of competition.

Strayhorn’s high school career at IMG Academy was marked by notable achievements. He was a MaxPreps Preseason Sophomore All-American first-team selection and played various positions on the offensive line. His versatility, combined with his strong technique and athleticism, makes him a valuable addition to Michigan’s roster.

Strayhorn is a talented young lineman with a promising future at Michigan. His commitment strengthens the Wolverines’ recruiting class, and with continued development, he has the potential to become a key contributor on the offensive line.
