The LSU Tigers and head coach Brian Kelly have made another splash in the 2025 recruiting class. According to On3Recruits, the Tigers landed 6-foot, 170-pound wide receiver Phillip Wright III. Wright had previously been committed to the Michigan Wolverines but ended up flipping his commitment.

His commitment was led by Tigers wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton and Tigers running backs coach Frank Wilson. The Tigers used their Bayou Splash Recruiting Event toward the end of July to lure Wright III to Kelly's staff.

Wright in High School

Wright went to high school in Destrehan, La. All throughout his high school tenure, he showed a lot of quickness and burst. He got down the field pretty fast and it was evident. He also helped out a lot in the special teams game with punt returning and had a couple of those punts returned for touchdowns.

Tigers 2025 Recruiting Class

Wright joins an already packed recruiting class that the Tigers have put together for the 2025 season. According to 247Sports, the Tigers 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 3 in the nation and has 21 total commits.

The recruiting class contains three five-stars, 15 four-stars—including Wright—and three three-stars.

Gabe Brooks, a 247Sports Scouting Analyst, gave a lowdown on who Wright is as a player.

"Big-play receiver who can stretch the field vertically or hit the long ball as a short game catch-and-run threat," Brooks said. "Capable of aligning at multiple receiver spots and represents the type of speed-oriented weapon who can allow a coaching staff ample creativity."

Brooks continued with more of an evaluation on Wright.

"Dynamic run-after-catch threat in the screen and quick games," he said. "Capable of stacking cuts in the open field. Shows some promising route snap that should help enhance ability to consistently create late separation when needed. Could supply an early special teams option as a return threat and a dangerous receiving weapon who could move around the formation. Projects as a high-major prospect with the multi-sport evidence and verified athleticism that could lead beyond the college game."
