Scouting Derick Smith
Last season Smith caught 46 passes for 1,487 yards and 14 touchdowns for Southside High School. He also ran the ball 65 times for 1,036 yards and nine touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Smith accounted for 74 total tackles and 11 sacks.
What Derick Smith's commitment means for the Tide
While Alabama has told Smith they see him as a safety in college, they are letting him choose his position. Both the wide receiver and safety positions are very important to Kalen Deboer's offense and Kane Womack's defense respectively. Regardless of which position he chooses, Smith's athleticism and size will make it hard to keep him off the field. Expect him to be a contributor in some capacity as a true freshman.
Derrick Smith becomes the fifth commit for Alabama's 2025 class, joining Zymear Smith, Antonio Coleman, Anthony Rodgers, and Myles Johnson.
