News coming out of Minnesota is that former Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones intends to sign with the division rival Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal worth up to $7 million.
Jones is coming off a 2023 season with Green Bay where he rushed for 656 yards and two touchdowns on 142 carries. Jones missed six games in 2023 due to multiple injuries, so the one-year deal may be a "prove it" type of contract. If Jones can prove he can stay healthy he may earn another contract with the Vikings.
Who is Aaron Jones?
Aaron Jones was selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of UTEP. Jones had one Pro Bowl season in 2020 where he rushed for 1,104 yards and nine touchdowns. He also chipped in 47 receptions for 355 yards and two touchdowns. Jones was given a contract extension after his Pro Bowl season for four years and was worth $48 million.
Minnesota, who recently lost quarterback Kirk Cousins, is now adding pieces to surround a potential early-round NFL Draft pick quarterback to stay competitive in a wide-open NFC North division race.
