The legal woes of the Georgia Bulldogs continue to grow.

In the early morning hours of July 26, Georgia wide receiver Rodarius "RaRa" Thomas was arrested on alleged child cruelty charges. According to Sports Illustrated, Thomas faces multiple charges of cruelty to children in the second degree and felonious battery.

Arrest records from Athens-Clarke County reveal that no bail has been set in the case and that Thomas remains in custody.

This is Thomas' second run-in with the law. In January 2023, he was arrested on family violence and false imprisonment charges which were eventually dropped.

Thomas transferred to Georgia from Mississippi State last season and contributed significantly to the Bulldogs' passing attack. He hauled in 23 passes for 383 yards and 1 touchdown. "Thomas was expected to be a key piece for the Bulldogs' offense in 2024," according to CBS Sports.

Thomas is a senior. His hometown is Eufaula, Ala. In 2022, he started seven games for Mississippi State and had a standout game against the Alabama Crimson Tide, making 8 receptions.

Georgia Bulldog Legal Woes

The Bulldogs have recently endured a rash of legal problems on the part of their players. In addition to Thomas' arrest, 24 of the team's football players have been accused of involvement in driving-related violations, such as DUIs, reckless driving and speed contests, including one crash that killed a player and a recruiting staffer in January 2023.

At the Southeastern Conference Media Days, coach Kirby Smart told reporters that his team has not solved this troubling issue.

"The incidents that have been happening off the field are not something we condone," Smart said in Dallas. "It's very unfortunate, disappointing I guess is the best word. I always talk about processing outcomes in wins and losses. We try not to base things on outcomes. In this case, the outcomes are very disappointing."

Earlier in July, Bulldogs linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. was arrested for reckless driving, and police cited defensive back Demello Jones for street racing in Athens, Ga.

On March 24, authorities arrested running back Trevor Etienne on DUI and reckless driving charges. The DUI charge was dismissed after Etienne pled no contest to the reckless driving charge and a charge of unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor.

Fans and observers are taking to social media to ridicule the Bulldogs football program for its epidemic of legal woes.

Georgia opens its season against Clemson on Aug. 31 in Atlanta. The Bulldogs are a 13.5-point favorite in that game.
