The Kentucky Wildcats (3-5, 1-5 Southeastern Conference) fell to the Auburn Tigers (3-5, 1-4) on Oct. 26 at Kroger Field in Lexington, Ky. Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter had a career day and the Tigers scored 24 unanswered points to secure their first SEC victory, 24-10.

Game Summary

Auburn fans have been begging for Hunter to touch the ball more. They got exactly what they wanted in this game. Hunter hit career highs in yards (278) and carries (23) and it paid off. Kentucky jumped out to a 10-0 early lead, and all of Auburn's usual issues had reared their ugly head. Third-down woes, suspect coverage in man and Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne threw an interception. The game went into the half tied at 10, but Hunter put it away in the second half with three runs over 40 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 45-yard run to put the Tigers up by two touchdowns.

Play of the Game

It has to be Hunter's last touchdown. Auburn fans have craved this type of opportunity for their star running back. They have screamed for this. And their request was validated in this game. Hunter has been one of the SEC's absolute best in 2024.

Coming into the game he averaged more than 5 yards per carry. He averaged a little over 12 yards per carry against Kentucky. In part due to the 45-yard, fourth-quarter sprint. Hunter is one of the conference's best-kept secrets and really showed out in a must-win scenario. Tiger fans hope to see a continued increase in Hunter's usage.

Looking Ahead: Auburn

That was a huge victory for the TIgers. Up next is a dangerous No. 25 Vanderbilt (5-3, 2-2) team that has proven to be able to tackle the giants. Auburn had to have this win to be sure they would have an SEC victory. The schedule down the stretch gets icky for the Tigers.

Looking Ahead: Kentucky

The Wildcats travel to face the No. 7 Tennesse Volunteers (6-1, 3-1) next. Kentucky has shown the ability to compete with the upper echelon of the conference, but it doesn't get any easier from here.
