LSU has a little extra to celebrate on Independence Day as coveted defensive lineman Zion Williams from Lufkin, Texas, committed to join the Tigers. He becomes the 10th four-star member of the Bayou Bengals' impressive 2025 recruiting class, which is headlined by two five-star pledges.

ESPN rates Williams as the No. 15 defensive lineman in the 2025 cycle and the No. 174 overall player. He committed to LSU after receiving offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, USC, and other blue-chip programs.

Scouting Report on Zion Williams

Williams is 6-foot-5 and 330 pounds. He is a large interior presence on the defensive line capable of anchoring "the middle of multiple fronts," according to 247Sports. He has excellent strength. At the prep level, he easily takes on and defeats double teams. Although Williams has exhibited good speed for his size, he fits "the mold of a traditional nose [tackle] whose impact is felt more in the run game than as a pass rusher."

His snap anticipation and first step are excellent. He tends to play upright at times but has more than enough talent to refine his technique with coaching at the college level. Williams projects as a multi-year starter at the Power Four level and has the potential to eventually play on Sundays.

As a sophomore, Williams made 31 tackles, including 4 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. He followed up those numbers in his junior season with 37 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks.

Williams also competes in track and field. He is an elite performer in the shot put and discus events.

The Bayou Bengals' Stellar 2025 Class

With Williams in the fold, On3 ranks LSU's 2025 class No. 4 in the nation, behind only Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia. Williams is the second defensive lineman in the class, joining talented Floridian EDGE Jesse Harrold. The headliners of the class are five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and five-star running back Harlem Berry. On3, 247Sports, and ESPN rate Underwood as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 class. He already has an NIL deal which is valued at $1.3 million.
