The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) took care of business at home against the Auburn Tigers (2-4, 0-3) by a score of 31-13. Head coach Kirby Smarts' offense got off to a way better start as Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck and running back Trevor Etienne stole the show in the victory.
Game Summary
Beck got this game started quickly, after his defense forced a stop and got the ball back for his offense.
Beck and Etienne helped lead an 11-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to begin the game, with the touchdown coming from an Etienne 2-yard run to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead as they never looked back from there.
The Bulldogs went into the half up 14-3 until the Tigers made it interesting early in the third quarter with a touchdown of their own to cut it to 14-10.
Then the next two drives for the Bulldogs extended the lead to 28-10 and the Bulldogs finished this one off and got their second SEC win of the season.
Beck finished 23-of-29 for 240 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Etienne finished with 16 rushes for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns as well.
Turning Point: Georgia
There was a true turning point in this game for the Bulldogs. In the third quarter, when the Tigers turned the ball over on downs already down 21-10, the Bulldogs then put together a 5-play touchdown drive to extend the lead to 28-10.
On the drive, Beck had completions for 13 yards to wide receiver Dominic Lovett, 17 yards to running back Cash Jones and 3 yards to wide receiver Dillon Bell for a touchdown.
Beck was truly himself in this game and it showed on the stat sheet as he bounced back from a tough Week 5 performance.
Beck also improved his season line to 12 touchdowns and 3 interceptions after the victory over the Tigers.
What It Means
For the Bulldogs, it was great for Beck to be back to his old self, making good decisions and protecting the football. They beat another team that they should have and they are on to Week 7. In Week 7, they will host the Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-4, 0-2) at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium at 4:15 p.m. EST on SEC Network.
For the Tigers, they drop yet another game, and they do not get much from their offense outside of quarterback Payton Thorne and running back Jarquez Hunter. In Week 7, they actually have a bye week to reset and try to find answers on offense.
