The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) and head coach Kirby Smart suffered a tough loss in Week 5 against the No. 1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0, 1-0) 41-34. The Auburn Tigers (2-3, 0-2 SEC) suffered a tough loss against the No. 19-ranked Oklahoma Sooners (4-1, 1-1) 27-21 in Week 5. The Bulldogs and Tigers will meet at 3:30 p.m. EST on Oct. 5 at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium.
What's at Stake?
The Bulldogs are looking to improve their record to 14-3 after a loss since the 2016 season when Smart took the job at Georgia.
The Tigers look to improve to 84-42-6 all-time in road openers.
Key Players: Georgia
Quarterback Carson Beck, Tight End Lawson Luckie
Beck continues to be a dominant force for the Bulldogs' offense. He put up decent but not impressive numbers for Georgia in its loss to the Crimson Tide. He completed 27-of-50 passes for 439 yards, 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He really got it together in the second half but fell short by throwing an interception on the final drive of the game.
Luckie is an interesting part of the Bulldogs' offense. Luckie actually caught one of Beck's TD passes in the loss to Alabama. But he leads the tight end room for the Bulldogs with 2 touchdowns and 102 yards receiving.
Defensive Back Dan Jackson, Defensive Back Daylen Everette
Jackson had quite the game against Alabama and is a mainstay for this Bulldogs' defense. He led the team with 10 tackles and had an interception off of Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe.
Everette did not have much of an impact against the Crimson Tide. But he did his damage earlier this season against the Kentucky Wildcats. In that game, he tallied 8 career stops.
Key Players: Auburn
Wide Receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Quarterback Payton Thorne
Lambert-Smith had a pretty good game against the Sooners. He caught 5 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown and he is a favorite target of Thorne.
Thorne also had himself quite the game against the Sooners. He completed 21-of-32 passes for 338 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.
Linebacker Eugene Asante, EDGE Jalen McLeod
Asante has been a beast for the Tigers' defense. He leads Auburn in tackles so far this season. In a game against the Texas A&M Aggies last season, he had a 67-yard fumble recovery for a TD.
McLeod has also been quite a monster for the Tigers' defense. He ranks second in the SEC with 7.5 tackles for loss.
Trends to Watch
The Bulldogs look to keep up Smart's 26-game home winning streak and push that number to 27.
The Tigers look to improve their record to 47-39-6 in SEC road openers.
