The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and head coach Brent Key have reeled in a big fish in the 2025 recruiting class. According to On3Recuits, the Yellow Jackets landed 6-foot-5, 265-pound interior offensive lineman Josh Petty. Petty chose the Yellow Jackets over the Florida State Seminoles, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Tennessee Volunteers. A big part in Petty choosing the Yellow Jackets, was Calvin Johnson who also played for the Yellow Jackets and had a Hall of Fame career in the NFL with the Detroit Lions.
Petty in High School
Petty went to high school in Roswell, Ga., at Fellowship Christian School. All throughout his high school tenure, he was pancaking defenders when it came to the run and the pass game. He was able to get down the field quickly and throw insane blocks. Several of Petty's teammates were able to get easy touchdowns because Petty was so good at opening run lanes and opening lanes for the quarterback to scramble and find his receivers.
Georgia Tech 2025 Recruiting Class
Petty joins an already packed recruiting class that the Yellow Jackets have put together for the 2025 season. According to 247Sports, the Yellow Jackets 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 20 in the nation and has 20 total commits.
The recruiting class contains one five-star—including Petty—2 four-stars and 17 three-stars.
Petty had some things to say about Key and what really helped recruit him to the Yellow Jackets.
"The relationship with coach Key is special," Petty said. "He was intentional during this entire recruiting process. It's been amazing to see. The hospitality and family environment that I experienced when I got there and got out to that campus is unreal. He's been very detail-oriented about getting me there. He's made sure to prioritize."
Petty continued with how excited he is to join the Yellow Jackets and getting to work.
"Seeing Georgia Tech on the rise and being able to be a catalyst for that is special," he said. "Being one of the head guys to start this up and get Georgia Tech going the way it was and get it back to the good ole days. It's special, for sure. Being a hometown guy, knowing how good they used to be, and seeing that, I am glad to be a part of that. It's beyond special."
