Georgia Tech Preview 2023

After the 2022 season, the Yellow Jackets officially named Brent Key the head coach at Georgia Tech. During his tenure as the interim head coach, GT went 4-4 with big wins over Pitt and North Carolina (both on the road) along with a victory over Duke in Atlanta.

This off-season Brent Key and his staff knew the key (see what I did there?) to success was the transfer portal. Don't let the 42nd ranking fool you, this class is really good.

After they lost quarterbacks Jeff Simms and Taisun Phommachanh the Yellow Jackets picked up Haynes King from Texas A&M. Some will turn their nose up to King, but the reality is King won the job at Texas A&M in both 2021 and 2022. Unfortunately, King was injured in 2021 and lost his job. His play did drop in 2022. However, Texas A&M had a rough season as a whole.

Not only does King come in, but GT also grabs a couple 3-star wide receivers from the SEC. Christian Leary (formerly at Alabama) flipped his commitment from UCF and heads to Atlanta instead. Chase Lane follows Haynes King lead and jumps from Texas A&M over to the Yellow Jackets. Dominick Blaylock also transfers in from the back-to-back National Champions, Georgia Bulldogs.

The Yellow Jackets nab Brett Seither, a 6'5 230 pound tight end from Georgia. He is a pass-catching tight end and will give Haynes King another promising target.

On defense, there are new faces like Andre White (4-year player from Texas A&M), Braelon Oliver (Grad Transfer from Minnesota), Justin Brown (safety from Mississippi State), Omar Daniels (DB from Kansas State), Eddie Kelly (DL from USF), and Etinosa Reuben (DL from Clemson) who will all be seeing a lot of playing time this season.

The Yellow Jackets are going Bowling 2023

Friday, September 1st VS Louisville

This will be the first game for both new Head Coaches (last season Coach Key was interim HC). Both schools have done an incredible job in the portal and both teams have a ton of new faces that will need time to mold. However, the Yellow Jackets drop game 1.

30-24 Loss

Saturday, September 9th VS SC State

Coach Key gets his first win of the season against a very poor FCS team that went 3-8 last season.

33-20 Win

Saturday, September 16th VS Ole Miss

This will be Coach Key's first game against a top 25 ranked team. As long as the Rebels can beat Mercer at home and Tulane on the road first. Though Georgia Tech will be vastly improved this season, they just aren't at the caliber of Ole Miss.

45-17 Loss

Saturday, September 23 @Wake Forest

The Yellow Jackets will be going to a very difficult Allegacy Stadium. Luckily for them, Wake Forest lost QB Sam Hartman on top of 10 transfer portal exits and three NFL draft picks.

27-24 Win

Saturday, September 30th VS Bowling Green

After a 6-7 season in the MAC, their biggest win was against Marshall. Bowling Green had 5 losses by 20+ points including a 45-17 loss to UCLA and a 45-14 loss to Mississippi State.

42-24 Win

Saturday October 7th @Miami (FL)

Last Season Miami had an underwhelming 5-7 season to kick off the Mario Cristobal era. However, expect a bounce-back season for the Canes.

27-13 Loss

Saturday, October 21st VS Boston College

After a 3-9 season, Boston College is looking for something to smile about. With nine FBS losses in 2022, the Eagles will continue their losing ways against Georgia Tech.

38-23 Win

Saturday, October 28th VS North Carolina

With a win against the Tarheels in 2022, North Carolina is looking for vengeance this season. Without Phil Longo running the Tarheels offense, they will have to find an identity early in the season to stay competitive. I do believe they will find that identity and get their vengeance on the Yellow Jackets in 2023.

42-30 Loss

Saturday, November 4th @Virginia

The Cavaliers beat Coach Key and Georgia Tech last season 16-9. However, with the Yellow Jackets getting better all over the field they will steal this game back this season.

27-17 Win

Saturday, November 11th @Clemson

After a 41-10 loss last season, it is nearly impossible to see a win for the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech did improve, but the Clemson Tigers are one of the best teams in the country. Facing Clemson in Death Valley won't be pretty.

37-13 Loss

Saturday, November 18th VS Syracuse

Last season Syracuse Finished the season 7-6 but over the off-season, they lost a number of players from that roster. Players Duce Chestnut, Ja'Had Carter, and Steve Linton are just a few big names that are left. However, Syracuse did not replace their talent like Georgia Tech did.

31-28 Win

Rivalry Week VS Georgia

Georgia is the back-to-back National Champions and are favorites to do it again. The Yellow Jackets would need a full blown miracle to have a chance in this one.

49-17 Loss
