After all the contract disputes, draft selections and training camp cuts, the NFL is back.

Week 1 Storylines to Follow

The Kansas City Chiefs are the defending champions of the last two Super Bowls. The impossible task of a three-peat is in sight with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid leading the offense, and defensive tackle Chris Jones leading the defense.

There is much optimism about having these key pieces in place, and the offseason additions via the draft and free agency have set the champs up to make a serious run at three in a row. However, with the league improving all across the board, contending teams adding more firepower and ascending teams looking to improve, the Chiefs will get everyone’s best shot every week. The question is, how will they respond?

The Atlanta Falcons potentially have one of the best teams in the league. With a new head coach in Raheem Morris, a steady quarterback in Kirk Cousins and an abundance of offensive weapons, the team is poised to soar in this new era.

Defensively, they have shut-down corner AJ Terrell, All-Pro Jessie Bates III in the secondary with Lorenzo Carter, and training camp addition Matthew Judon, causing havoc in the front seven. This makes the Falcons a complete team. The NFC South division is within reach, and they have the talent to achieve even more.

Russell Wilson is a Super Bowl champion, Pro-Bowler and all-around great guy. However, it seems like the end may be near after a rough stint with the Denver Broncos, where they lost a lot of games and he was benched before eventually being released. Wilson has since signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers and won the starting job in training camp, but this could be his last chance to correct his career trajectory. With Justin Fields as the backup, it won’t take much for the Steelers to pull the trigger this season, especially since the team did not add much in the offseason. This might spell a rough season in the AFC North division, which has improved. division, which has improved.
