Herschel Walker's Legacy

Walker's accomplishments with the Georgia Bulldogs left behind a legacy of unquestionable greatness. Walker burst on to the scene his freshman year, contributing 1,616 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in leading the Bulldogs to the 1980 National Championship. He became the first true freshman in history to be voted a unanimous All-American.

His dedication to the game and superior work ethic only continued to grow. Walker rushed for 1,891 yards and 18 touchdowns in the 1981 season, earning him recognition as the Heisman Trophy runner-up. He then fought through a broken thumb to rush for 1,752 yards and 16 touchdowns in his final collegiate season, leading the Bulldogs to a third straight Southeastern Conference Championship and winning the Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award.

Walker only built on his legacy during his professional career. He was drafted into the NFL in 1985 by the Dallas Cowboys and turned heads quickly during his time in the league. Walker's NFL career was highlighted by All Pro and Pro Bowl selections in 1987 and 1988. In all, Walker played for four teams over 13 seasons and compiled 82 touchdowns over the course of his professional career.

Walker is considered one of the greatest college football players of all time and now holds a place in the College Football Hall of Fame. The Legends Award only adds to a decorated career on both the collegiate and professional levels.
