Indiana’s historic season continued on Nov. 9 at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind. where the undefeated No. 8 Hoosiers (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten Conference), triumphed 20-15 over Michigan (5-5, 3-4). The Wolverines fought hard but couldn’t overcome Indiana’s efficient offense and resilient defense. With this victory, Indiana moves one step closer to a perfect season and faces a pivotal showdown with No. 2 Ohio State (8-1, 5-1) on Nov. 23.

Hoosiers-Wolverines Game Summary

Indiana's showdown against Michigan started with a promising drive, though it ultimately ended in a punt. Michigan responded with a methodical 14-play drive culminating in a field goal, giving them an early edge. However, the Hoosiers soon found their rhythm, and by halftime, they held a 14-point lead. While Michigan fought back in the second half, their struggle to establish a consistent passing game allowed Indiana’s defense to focus heavily on stopping the run, holding the Wolverines to a mere 2.0 yards per carry.

Indiana's offense, meanwhile, operated efficiently throughout most of the game. Senior quarterback Kurtis Rourke showed his poise and skill, completing 17 of 28 passes for 206 yards with 2 touchdowns and just 1 interception. His steady decision-making was a highlight, keeping Indiana in control even as Michigan narrowed the gap late in the game. Ultimately, the Hoosiers appeared to be the more complete team, outplaying Michigan in key moments to secure the win.

Turning Point

The game’s turning point came in the fourth quarter after Michigan’s Kalel Mullings punched in a 1-yard rushing touchdown, narrowing Indiana’s lead and putting their control in question for the first time. The Hoosiers responded resiliently, extending their lead with a late field goal by kicker Nicolas Radicic, who has been perfect on both field goals and extra points this season. When Michigan got the ball back with a chance to win, Indiana’s defense held firm, refusing to break and sealing the Hoosiers' victory.

What it Means

With this win, Indiana reaches a program-best 10-0 record, setting up an enormous showdown next week against a one-loss Ohio State team. This upcoming clash will pit two of the B1G’s top teams against each other, offering Indiana another high-stakes opportunity to prove they belong among college football’s elite. After defeating Michigan, one of the sport’s most storied programs, the Hoosiers are proving they’re ready to challenge the established powerhouses.

For Michigan, this game reinforces the gap they face. While the Wolverines boast a strong B-plus to A-level defense, their offensive struggles, particularly at the quarterback position, have held them back, limiting their ability to reach the level of play required to compete with top-tier opponents.
