The rich get richer. Steve Sarkisian and the No. 2 Texas Longhorns (11-1, 7-1 Southeastern Conference) have laid the groundwork for a prosperous future in Austin, Texas, putting together a tremendous group of recruits, now rated by On3 as the No. 1 class in the 2025 cycle. With a bevy of five-star and four-star athletes, this recruiting class positions the Longhorns to remain one of the top teams in the country for years to come.

On Dec. 6, consensus five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry became the highest-rated player to join the Longhorns' 2025 class. All rating services rank him as the No. 2 DL in the cycle, behind only Elijah Griffin, who signed with No. 5 Georgia (10-2, 6-2). Terry previously committed to Georgia and USC (6-6, 4-5 Big Ten Conference) and after two decommitments landed with Texas, where he was targeted by DL coach Kenny Baker. A native of Manchester, Ga., Terry stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 275 pounds.

Bringing the Georgia native into the fold the day before their matchup with the Bulldogs in the SEC championship game gives the Longhorns a boost of pregame momentum.

Other five-star members of the Texas 2025 class are:

  • Jonah Williams, 6-foot-3 safety, Galveston, Texas

  • Lance Jackson, 6-foot-5 EDGE, Texarkana, Texas

  • Kaliq Lockett, 6-foot-2 wide receiver, Saches, Texas

  • Kade Phillips, 6-foot-1 cornerback, Missouri City, Texas

  • Jaime Ffrench, 6-foot-1 wide receiver, Jacksonville, Fla.

  • Michael Terry III, 6-foot-3 athlete, San Antonio, Texas

With the talent on the current Longhorns roster and the infusion of new athleticism due to successful recruiting, Texas is on the road to dominance. College football analyst Joel Klatt said the Longhorns are on the brink of becoming a "superpower" in the sport.

Top Recruiting Classes

Success on the recruiting trail is nothing new for Sarkisian. On3 ranked last year's Texas class No. 6 in the nation, and the year before that the Longhorns had the No. 3 class.

Per On3, the top-15 recruiting classes in the 2025 cycle are:

  1. Texas

  2. Alabama

  3. Oregon

  4. Georgia

  5. Ohio State

  6. Michigan

  7. Auburn

  8. LSU

  9. Texas A&M

  10. Tennessee

  11. Florida

  12. Notre Dame

  13. Miami

  14. USC

  15. Ole Miss

Unsurprisingly, the teams listed above are college football's blue blood programs. Success on the recruiting trail goes hand-in-hand with success on the gridiron.
