The No. 14 LSU Tigers (4-1, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) had no problems with the South Alabama Jaguars (2-3, 1-0 Sun Belt Conference) in a 42-10 route in Death Valley. Tigers' quarterback Garrett Nussmeier had quite the game against the Jaguars in the victory. He completed 26-of-39 passes for 409 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He was a big factor in the Tigers' route of the Jaguars.

Game Summary

The Tigers got this one started early as they scored touchdowns on their first three drives of the game. They went 2 plays, 87 yards; 11 plays, 79 yards; and 5 plays, 60 yards, to take a 21-0 lead and they never looked back after that.

The first touchdown drive was set up by an 86-yard run by running back Caden Durham and then finished off by a 1-yard touchdown run by Nussmeier.

The second drive was set up by a nice 29-yard throw from Nussmeier to wide receiver CJ Daniels and finished off by an 8-yard touchdown run by Durham.

The third killer drive was set up by a 25-yard pass by Nussmeier to wide receiver Kyren Lacy and finished off by a 5-yard touchdown run by Nussmeier.

The LSU offense was clicking on all cylinders and had everything working against the Jaguars.

Turning Point: LSU

There was no true turning point in this game since it was an onslaught, but there was one moment in the game where it flipped more in the Tigers' favor. The score was 7-0 Tigers early, and their defense stopped the Jaguars' drive after 5 plays.

The Tigers quickly turned the field after the Jaguars' punt and went down the field in 2 plays in 54 seconds to take a 14-0 lead.

They went 87-yards in 54 seconds to put them up by two scores and the route was on. The route continued in a 42-10 win, but in the first half, the Tigers turned the route on quickly.

Nussmeier and Durham were a dynamic duo in this one and especially on this drive as they were the whole offense and helped get them down the field in a hurry.

What It Means

For the Tigers, they continued to see more and more improvement and poise from Nussmeier. He continues to show game in and game out, that he is the real deal. Head coach Brian Kelly trusts him and Nussmeier has the tools to lead the Tigers far into the College Football Playoff. Up next for the Tigers in Week 5 is a bye week and then in Week 6 they will host the No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels (4-1, 0-1) on Oct. 12 at a time to be determined.

For the Jaguars, this one was out of reach as the game got underway. Their defense had no answers for Nussmeier and their offense that exploded against the Appalachian State Mountaineers (2-2, 0-1), disappeared in this one. Up next for the Jaguars in Week 5, they will go on the road to face the Arkansas State Red Wolves (2-2) at 7 p.m. EST on Oct. 5 in Jonesboro, Ark.
