The LSU Tigers received a key commitment from five-star wide receiver Derek Meadows. The coveted wideout chose to play for coach Brian Kelly's Bayou Bengals after receiving offers from Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and other elite programs.
Meadows is rated by 247Sports as the No. 6 WR in the 2025 cycle and the No. 1 prospect from Nevada.
The primary LSU representatives involved in Meadows' commitment were wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan.
About Meadows
Meadows is a big and tall wide receiver. At 6-foot-6 and 200 pounds, with an 80-inch wingspan, he is too much to handle for high school defenders. Not only is his size a tremendous advantage, but he also has elite speed. At Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Meadows is a medal-winning track star in sprint and hurdles events. As a sophomore, he was honored as Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
With his combination of speed, height and athleticism, scouts view Meadows as an immediate red-zone threat at the collegiate level. Although he has been recruited as a wide receiver, some scouts believe he may become a tight end.
"Coaches love my speed, my ability to get open fast when I’m running deep routes and my catching abilities," Meadows told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
He projects as a future NFL player.
LSU's 2025 Class
With the commitment of Meadows, the LSU 2025 class remains rated No. 3 in the nation. Only Alabama and Ohio State have higher-rated classes. Meadows joins three other five-star pledges in the Tigers' impressive 2025 class—quarterback Bryce Underwood, running back Harlem Berry and defensive back DJ Pickett.
Medows joins an outstanding group of receivers in Baton Rouge, La. Although two of the Tigers' wide receivers from last year's squad were selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft (Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.), LSU's wide receiver room remains stocked with ample talent, headlined by the phenomenal redshirt junior Chris Hilton Jr.
