Marshall at Coastal Carolina Preview

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers host Marshall in their first home game in over a month, having to deal with not having their starting quarterback Grayson McCall due to the injury he sustained last week.

Broadcast Information:

  • Kickoff 6 PM Eastern Time on NFL Network

  • Jason Ross Jr and Tyoka Jackson will be on the call

  • Marshall Radio: Thundering Herd Sports Network

  • Coastal Radio: WRNN

What's at Stake?

Both teams come into the matchup with a 4-3 record, trying to get one step closer to bowl eligibility. Coastal has the added issue of having to contend with not having Grayson McCall at the helm of the offense. McCall suffered a scary injury early on in the fourth quarter during last week's game against Arkansas State while sliding on a scramble. He would have to be stretchered off the field and stayed in a local hospital overnight. McCall isn't the only player banged up for the Chanticleers offense. Wide receiver Jared Brown will play on Saturday, but running back Braydon Bennett will be a game-time decision.

Key Players - Marshall

DE Owen Porter and RB Rasheen Ali

Key Players - Coastal Carolina

QB Jarrett Guest and WR Jared Brown

Key Matchups:

Jarrett Guest vs Marshall's pass rush

Jared Brown vs Marshall's secondary

Prediction:

Especially without McCall at the helm, the Chanticleers will need some help in order to defeat a strong Marshall team, even at home. Unless the offensive line can allow Jarrett Guest to make some plays (which they have shown they haven't been able to do this season) the offense will have issues without McCall's dynamic playmaking ability. The Chanticleers' defense will need to be on point in order to keep Coastal in the game. If the defense can keep the Marshall offense at bay, however, and they can get some turnovers the Chanticleers could have a chance. This does not seem likely, however.

Final score- Marshall 35-14
