Texas A&M, after it was determined that Mark Stoops was not going to leave Kentucky to become the head football coach of the Aggies, it appears will now turn to their “2nd choice” in Duke head man Mike Elko to replace recently fired Jimbo Fisher.

Fisher posted a 45-25 record in College Station and a 27-21 record in the SEC. Over the last three seasons, Fisher led the Aggies to an unacceptable 10-13 mark against SEC opponents and a 12-15 record against Power 5 teams.

Elko is a defensive-minded coach who was the Aggies Defensive Coordinator under Fisher for four seasons from 2018-2021. Under Elko’s leadership, the Aggies defense ranked nationally in the following categories:

· # 9 in total defense in the COVID season

· #14 in total defense in 2021

· #3 rushing defense in 2018

· #2 rushing defense in 2020

· #3 scoring defense in 2021

As the head man for the Blue Devils for the last two seasons, Elko led Duke to back-to-back winning seasons (16-9 record). Prior to his arrival on Tobacco Road, Duke had not posted a winning season since 2018.

Elko will have all the resources and money available to turn the Aggie football program around and compete for conference and national championships.

Lord knows they have all the talent in the world.
