The No. 13 Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0) handled business in Tulsa, Okla., against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (1-2) on Sept. 14 by a score of 45-10. Tulsa was never really in it, struggling to find any offensive cohesion and consistent quarterback play.

Game Summary

Oklahoma State came out firing, opening up a 28-0 lead in the first half off the back of 4 touchdown passes from Cowboys quarterback Alan Bowman. Bowman finished with 396 yards passing and 5 touchdowns. Surprisingly, star running back Ollie Gordon II was quiet, carrying the ball 17 times for just 49 yards. Nonetheless, the Cowboys' offense meant business and throttled the Tulsa defense throughout.

Tulsa threw out four different quarterbacks throughout the game in an attempt to find some sort of passing game to keep up with the Cowboys' onslaught. Tulsa finished with 236 total yards passing and 1 interception. Tulsa scored 10 points in garbage time with Seth Morgan notching a 43-yard field goal and Stephen Kittleman putting up a 6-yard rushing TD.

The Cowboys' defense held strong, resulting in them allowing their offense to work with excellent efficiency. Their second team was in by the third quarter and the backups got some good experience, signifying the major blowout. After just barely surviving against the Arkansas Razorbacks (1-1), a stress-free win is exactly what the Cowboys needed.

Turning Point

Oklahoma State got up early, entering the second quarter leading 14-0. Tulsa's offense struggled to produce, but their defense was holding back Gordon well.

That being said, they couldn't hold forever and Bowman was showing that he could sling it early. Bowman did just that with nine minutes to go in the second. He found a wide-open Talyn Shettron for a 78-yard passing TD, his third one on Saturday.

Gunslinging Cowboys

The Cowboys' offense, well known for its stellar rushing attack, showed that they can air it out as well. There were a lot of questions surrounding Bowman's passing skills to begin the year, so a game like this is refreshing and promising. If the Cowboys can develop a balanced offensive attack, then that takes a lot of pressure off of Gordon. The Cowboys move to 3-0 on the season and will face a big test in the No. 12 Utah Utes (2-0) at home on Sept. 21 to open Big 12 Conference play.

The Golden Hurricane falls to 1-2 after a disappointing performance from its offense, finding little to no room throughout the game. After losing to an easily beatable Arkansas Red Wolves (2-1) team, this loss doesn't bode well for the start of American Athletic Conference play. Tulsa will face the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (1-1) on Sept. 21.
