Following the embarrassment the Ohio State Buckeyes showed in their Cotton Bowl loss to Missouri, Ryan Day has flipped the script. He has shown aggressiveness in the portal by bringing in guys like Davison Igbinosun, Josh Simmons, Ja'had Carter, and Tanner McCalister. I believe Ryan Day knows he needs to improve the roster and staff this year hence the great showing in the portal over the last week.
Over the past week, Ohio State has received commitments from Alabama OL Seth McLaughlin, and Kansas State Quarterback Will Howard, and is hosting Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins. All three players were multi-year starters at big-time programs. Will Howard won a Big 12 title while at KSU, Seth McLaughlin despite his snapping woes in the playoffs was on the Rimington Watch List, and Quinshon Judkins rushed for 2,725 yards and 31 touchdowns while averaging 5 yards per carry in two seasons with Ole Miss.
If Ryan Day and running backs coach Tony Alford can keep Judkins in Columbus, that would be a massive get to help fill the void that Chip Trayanum, Miyan Williams, and possibly TreVeyon Henderson Henderson left. Quinshon Judkins was a 3-star recruit out of Alabama in the 2021 class for Ole Miss.
Look for Ryan Day to be aggressive with Offensive linemen in the portal, too.
Returning Stars - Ohio State Buckeyes
Along with being aggressive in the portal, Ryan Day and the staff have been aggressive with guys returning for their final season at Ohio State. They have convinced high-end players such as OL Donovan Jackson, DL Jack Sawyer, DL Tyleik Williams, DB Lathan Ransom, and Jim Thorpe award finalist DB Denzel Burke. Ohio State rarely gets these high-end guys to come back for the final showing as many leave to be a day 1 or day 2 pick in the NFL draft. There are still possibilities that TreVeyon Henderson and JT Tuimoloau come back for the final season and help the Buckeyes flip the script moving forward.
High School Recruiting Update - Ohio State Buckeyes
Corners Coach Tim Walton is turning out to be the Brian Hartline of the DB Recruiting. Walton has scorched earth in the past few recruiting cycles. He just landed a BIG time commitment from 5-star Corner Devin Sanchez from North Shore, Texas. Devin Sanchez is a top 4 player in the 2025 class. Since then, Walton has shifted focus on Dorian Brew, another DB who is versatile enough to play Nickel and Safety as well. Brew is currently ranked 15th and a top 4 corner in the 2025 class as well.
Ryan Day knows the importance of the next season for the Buckeyes and what that can mean for his tenure. It seems as if the pressure has ramped up and changes are coming. Click here for an update from Dawg TJ Baker on possible Coaching Changes.
