Oregon continued its recruiting surge in the state of Arizona after four-star wide receiver Cooper Perry announced he is committing to the Ducks. Perry was being recruited by Ra'Shaad Samples at Arizona State, but his recent move to become the new Ducks runningbacks coach all but sealed the fate of Perry's decision.
Who Is Cooper Perry?
Perry is a four-star wide receiver prospect from Scottsdale. The 2025 prospect is 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds and is preparing for his final season at Notre Dame Preparatory. On3 has him ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in the state of Arizona and a top 30 wide receiver prospect in the country. Oregon wide receivers coach, Junior Adams, is known to prioritize versatility and that is a strength of Perrys'.
Perry can line up inside and outside the hashes and has done a lot of damage in the short-to-intermediate game. His top speed still has some room for improvement, but his burst off the line and agility could pose problems for opposing defenses in the Big Ten Conference with how Oregon Offensive Coordinator Will Stein spreads the ball out on offense. In 2023, Perry logged 1,190 yards receiving and 18 touchdown. Perry, a multi-sport athlete, has shown elite flashes of feeling out zone coverages and displays some serious wiggle with his route-running work.
How Does PerryImpact The Ducks?
Perry's commitment has given coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks their fourth four-star commit of the 2025 class. Oregon seems to be on a surge toward the top of the recruiting world ever since Lanning stepped in. Going forward, the depth looks incredible for the Ducks at the wide receiver position since this is the second four-star wideout to commit to Oregon—the other being 2025 recruit Dallas Wilson.
The Ducks also have some impressive receivers from the recent 2024 class. The Ducks are preparing to send out 2024 four-star Jeremiah McClellan and five-star Gatlin Blair. Oregon also has Jurrion Dickey and Evan Stewart, who were both five-stars in the class of 2023, that still have at least two seasons of eligibility remaining. With this group of pass catchers, Stein will have a diverse set of weaponry at his disposal.
Wilson is 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds as well which will give the Ducks a variety of different archetypes at the position. There is a great combination of size, speed, footwork and hands headed for the Ducks wide receiver room. Blair is listed as 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds with elite arm length (34 inches.)
Perry's commitment also brings the possibility of help in the special teams. Perry is talented in the open field and can make defenders miss in the punt return game. Perry brings in consistency since he has had two straight seasons with more than 1,000 yards at Notre Dame Preparatory. As a sophomore in 2022, he had 1,100 yards and 20 touchdowns receiving.
How Quickly Can Perry Contribute?
Perry has the potential to infiltrate the higher ranks of the depth chart early because of his ability to do so many things on the field. Perry is not a one-trick pony. However, it should be noted how deep the position group is for the Ducks. With Stewart, Dickey, McClellan, Blair, Kyler Kasper, Wilson, and others being in the mix for Perry's freshman season, don't be surprised if he doesn't see a lot of snaps in 2025.
Scouting Cooper Perry
Perry is a lengthy, quick and savvy pass catcher who can affect the game in many different ways. Perry is a multi-sport athlete, who also plays lacrosse. Perry exemplifies the awareness to find soft spots in zone coverage, the ability to beat man coverage with his route running, versatility in the slot and outside the numbers and a knack for making defenders miss.
Perry has been consistent with production by putting up back-to-back 1,100-yard seasons at Notre Dame Preparatory. He has been one of the top prospects in the region since his sophomore year after showing his ability to create separation and strong hands. His skill set also shows the ability to be elusive in the open field and become a serious punt-returning threat at Oregon.
