Penn State's quarterback room saw a shakeup during spring practice as it was revealed that redshirt freshman Jaxon Smolik went down with an injury that could be significant, as first reported by Blue-White Illustrated.
The details of the injury were not announced to the media by the program nor by coach James Franklin, but Smolik will be out at least for the remainder of spring practice.
Smolik entered camp as the third-string quarterback behind Drew Allar and Beau Pribula. He appeared in a blowout game against Delaware during the 2023 season but did not record any stats in his two snaps taken.
The Iowa native has not been seen practicing during media availability leading to the questions regarding his health.
With Smolik out, an opportunity will open for true freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer to see more snaps during spring practice.
