Four-star wide receiver Carterrious Brown committed to play on the Hilltop for the SMU Mustangs. According to Rivals, Brown, who hails from Arlington, Texas, is the No. 63 wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Brown's primary recruiter at SMU was Mustangs WR coach Rob Likens. Brown received offers from Texas, Kansas State, TCU, Utah and other top programs before ultimately deciding to play for SMU. Head coach Rhett Lashlee was also involved in Brown's recruitment.
Carterrious Brown
According to 247Sports, Brown is 6-foot-2 and weighs 175 pounds. He has had two consecutive impressive seasons at the prep level. As a sophomore in 2022, Brown averaged a jaw-dropping 26.4 yards per catch and scored 9 touchdowns. He continued to excel as a junior, with 30 receptions.
In the words of Yahoo Sports, "Brown has shown off elite ball-tracking ability as well as body contortion and awareness that brings highlight reel catches." He tends to elevate the level of his play when facing stiff competition. "Brown's long strides help him glide past defenders, allowing him to get on top of defenses as a vertical threat. He is also a red zone weapon where his quarterback can put the ball in the air and let him do the rest, often rising well above defenders."
As a result of his extraordinary athletic ability, his high school coaches occasionally line him up on offense, where he has proven to be an effective weapon—difficult to tackle.
SMU's 2025 Class
Brown is the 12th four-star pledge in the Mustangs' 2025 class which is now rated No. 26 in the nation and No. 4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Fellow members of Brown's 2025 class at SMU include:
Darmodd Odums, offensive tackle
Ty Hawkins, quarterback
Jalen Cooper wide receiver
Daylon Singleton, running back
Chinedu Onyeagoro, edge rusher
Zadian Gentry, cornerback
Mark Iheanachor, linebacker
Dramekco Green, running back
