The Sun Belt’s Arkansas State Red Wolves take on the Oklahoma Sooners in their last ride through the Big 12.

Broadcast Information

• Kickoff 12 PM Eastern time on ESPN

• Roy Philpott, Roddy Jones, and Taylor McGregor on the call

• KFIN 107.9 and The Varsity Network

What’s at Stake?

Arkansas State will try and earn their first victory over a P5 opponent since 2020. Oklahoma will look to bounce back after a disappointing end to last season, where they dropped their last two games of the season. Opening at home with a big victory should help keep OU at #20, or even jump up a few spots with some upsets.

Key Players

QB Dillon Gabriel - Oklahoma

RB Marcus Major - Oklahoma

QB JT Shrout – Arkansas State

LB Jaden Harris – Arkansas State

Key Match-ups

Former Colorado QB Shrout, should see some solid protection from his offensive line, who now have 11 players over 300 pounds. A stark contrast to when Butch Jones first got to Jonesboro.

Texas’ QB room gets a lot of talk but Dillon Gabriel may just be the best QB in the Big 12. Look for Gabriel to put up the numbers against an unproven Red Wolves secondary, even as he tries to find his new number one target, after losing Marvin Mims to the NFL.

Prediction

Oklahoma hasn’t lost a home opener since 2016, when they lost to a ranked Houston program, 33-23. Expect a few quick possessions for each team as they settle in at the start. Butch Jones has put together some great recruiting classes, and this team could be in contention for a bowl this year, but that opportunity will come down the line. It won’t start with this game. Gabriel will begin to open this game up quickly toward the second quarter and keep the Sooners rolling to a rather easy victory in Norman.
