Winning football games in the Southeastern Conference is one of the toughest tasks in sports. In a conference where every player on every team is among the best in the nation, separating the men from the boys becomes an almost trivial task. However, every team has standout players they can always call on in times of need, and the Arkansas Razorbacks are no different.
Here are the four players who must step up for the Razorbacks to have a successful 2024 season.
Taylen Green, Quarterback
This pick may be obvious, as the quarterback is always the focal point of every team. However, Green has a lot to prove in 2024, and in his first season in the SEC, he'll be tasked with leading Arkansas into several hostile environments. Arkansas' Week 2 matchup with Oklahoma State will be a great litmus test to determine how much Green will step up. If Arkansas is to make it back to a bowl game, it'll be up to Green to deliver some late-game heroics in several contests.
Andrew Armstrong, Wide Receiver
Arkansas' leading receiver in 2023 will be tasked with serving the role of Green's No. 1 option in 2024, and if last season was any indication, he's up to the challenge. Armstrong may have been stuck on a largely anemic offense in 2023, but he still racked up 764 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. Armstrong was also Arkansas' most consistent producer of yardage, and while he has more help around him this year, that doesn't mean Arkansas can afford for him to regress.
Xavian Sorey Jr., Linebacker
Sorey only played in seven games for Georgia in 2023, but, after transferring to Fayetteville, Ark., he's bound to be one of Arkansas' most exciting defensive players in 2024. As one of Arkansas' most intriguing Transfer Portal pickups, many eyes will undoubtedly be on the junior linebacker. If any player on Arkansas' defense has the chance to have a breakout season, it's Sorey.
Luke Hasz, Arkansas Tight End
Few sophomores in the country will have as much pressure on them to perform as Hasz, whose freshman season at Arkansas was cut short after an injury against Texas A&M. For a glimpse into the game-changing potential that the Bixby, Okla. native presents, take a look at Arkansas' 2023 matchup with LSU. In only his fourth collegiate game, Hasz caught six passes for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns on the road against the Tigers, solidifying himself as a top target. If Arkansas' offense is to return to form in 2024, Hasz will have to be a big part of it.
