Tuesday, March 12, 2024, will be a date for the Baltimore Ravens to remember as they signed running back Derrick Henry to a two-year contract for $16 million with a max value of up to $20 million due to incentives. The former Tennessee Titan is a four-time Pro Bowler, a two-time NFL rushing leader, and the 2020 NFL Player of the Year. Henry has spent his entire career with the Titans where he rushed for over 9,502 yards and 90 touchdowns.

Why this signing is good for Henry?

At the end of the 2023 season, the Titans organization fired coach Mike Vrabel. With a new coaching staff entering the building, the offensive style was likely going to change and begin to move away from Henry being the focal point. Thus, this signing gives Henry a fresh start with a new team and city. The offense is built for Henry with a big offensive line and a run-first game plan. Henry's versatility and physical running style will be an invaluable piece in coach John Harbaugh's offense. Henry has a great chance of winning another NFL rushing title. The NFL MVP isn't out of the realm of possibility either.

Why this is a good deal for the Ravens

The 2024 Ravens should have a real shot of going to the Super Bowl. Pairing Henry with quarterback Lamar Jackson gives the Ravens two former Heisman trophy winners in the same backfield. With tight end Mark Andrews and wide receiver Zay Flowers in this offense, there will be a lot of firepower when the Ravens have the ball. AFC defenses have officially been put on notice.

A Dawg's Perspective

This team will be exciting next season. Baltimore finally has stability in the running back position after dealing with J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards over the last few years. Dobbins has had a streak of bad luck with injuries and Edwards was good but not a workhorse. With the addition of Henry, Baltimore has a shot to be the top rushing team in the NFL.
