The Boston College Eagles (1-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) traveled down to Florida on Sept. 2, securing a 28-13 win over the No. 10 Florida State Seminoles (0-2, 0-2).

Florida State had to deal with more lackluster play from its offensive and defensive lines. These were supposed to be strengths for the Seminoles. But it hasn't been good at all. Boston College gave new head coach Bill O'Brien his first win.

What happened in the game?

Well, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell and his offensive and defensive lines were outmatched and physically overpowered. That allowed Eagles quarterback Thomas Castellanos and the BC offense time to run the ball up and down the field. Boston College held the Seminoles' offense to 21 yards rushing while recording 263.

By owning the line of scrimmage, it enabled running backs Kye Robichaux and former Seminole Treshaun Ward to run wild. They combined for 162 rushing yards and a touchdown. Ward led the Eagles in receiving with 61 yards and a touchdown.

Florida State's offense never got on track as Boston College defenders pressured Seminoles quarterback DJ Uiagalelei all night long. Uiagalelei completed 21 of 42 passes for 272 yards, 1 touchdown and a costly interception.

Also, the Seminoles couldn't capitalize on big plays, either having ill-timed penalties or Uiagalelei's passes that missed their mark. Without an effective run game, the Seminoles were limited.

Player of the Game

This honor falls to Boston College cornerback Max Tucker. He intercepted a Uiagalelei pass and took it back 58 yards. It set up an Eagles touchdown to make it 21-6 Boston College. The Eagles were well served as Castellanos and the Eagles' offense performed like a well-oiled machine compared to the Seminoles. The Eagles went up 21-6 with less than 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Boston College never looked back after that.

Seminoles Roll

The ACC is now more wide open than originally thought. Florida State, with its 0-2 ACC mark, needs to look at its first bye week as a time to overhaul their approach. Uiagalelei has not played well and FSU receivers have dropped passes. Florida State's running game has been non-existent. Could there be some quarterback competition happening? Time will tell. But those offensive and defensive lines need some serious help. The Seminoles' offensive line had defenders easily run past them. Meanwhile, the defensive line couldn't generate any pressure or shed blocks to tackle.

Boston College plays Duquesne on Sept. 7, followed by a clash with the Missouri Tigers on Sept. 14th. For the Eagles' first game under O'Brien, Boston College is off to a great start. Castellanos looked like he's simply picking up where he left off last season. He had a solid performance with his arm and legs.
