On Aug. 15, the Lombardi Award Committee announced that SMU Mustangs offensive lineman Logan Parr is on the Lombardi Award Watch List.

The Lombardi Award is handed out every season to the down lineman or linebacker who best demonstrates the values of leadership, courage, performance and discipline on and off the field. The award is named after one of the greatest coaches ever, Vince Lombardi, best known for coaching the Green Bay Packers, whom he led to three straight NFL championships and five total championships.

Ohio State Buckeyes' guard Jim Stillwagon was the first to win the prestigious award, back in 1970. Last year's winner was UCLA's defensive end, Laiatu Latu.

Parr's College Career

Parr is a graduate student from Helotes, Texas. He was a four-star recruit, rated by 247Sports as the No. 11 offensive lineman in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6-foot-4 and weighs 298 pounds. This summer, he was named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football (DCTF) All-Texas second-team offense, the Phil Steele Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference fourth team and the Athlon Sports Preseason All-ACC third-team offense.

Parr began his career at the University of Texas, transferring to SMU last season. He played in all 14 of the Mustangs' games and started in 13 at the left guard position.

Following the 2023 season, Parr earned All-American Athletic Conference first-team honors, DCTF All-Texas second-team honors and Pro Football Focus All-AAC team honors.

More Lombardi Award Information

The Lombardi Award represents much more than the qualities noted above. It represents the hard work, dedication, excellence and perseverance of outstanding athletes who exhibit leadership and good character. As these athletes compete on the field, they help inspire future generations of players and continue the legacy of a coaching legend.

Originally, the award was only for interior line positions that Lombardi played when he attended Fordham University. However, the award is now available not only to offensive guards and defensive tackles but also to all down linemen and linebackers.

Net proceeds from the activities associated with the award are contributed to cancer treatment, awareness, and research, on behalf of Lombardi's late wife, Marie.

Parr and the SMU Mustangs open the season on Aug. 24 against the Nevada Wolf Pack, who struggled to a 2-10 record last season.

Stay tuned to College Football Dawgs as the season goes on to see if Parr takes home the Lombardi Award.
