The transfer portal carousel appears to be in full swing. Just opening on December 4, there have already been a lot of players entering the portal looking for playing time and better opportunities. MJ Morris, the junior quarterback from NC State started his search and found a new home. The Terrapins decided to add the quarterback for the 2024 season.
With the Wolfpack pursuing and bringing in veteran Grayson McCall, Morris sought an opportunity to start. Having played in five games as a freshman (2022), he threw for 648 yards and seven touchdowns. The following season, Morris entered as the backup for graduate transfer, Brennan Armstrong, who transferred in from Virginia. After the team struggled to a 3-2 start, Morris took over the starting role and went 3-1 in the four games he started. He threw for 719 yards and seven touchdowns but also had five interceptions.
He is a dual-threat quarterback and is poised to compete for the starting role with the Terrapins that is slated to be vacated by the graduating Taulia Tagovailoa. His likely competition will come from Billy Edwards Jr. who served as Tagovailoa's backup this season. A fresh start with the Terrapins could help in Morris' development. He shows promise in quick-release throws and similar to Tagovailoa, has done well with play-action passes.
With the landscape of the Big 10 changing next season, the Terrapins adding MJ Morris to their roster will allow Morris to develop and further showcase his skills as well as give the Terrapins a mobile dual-threat quarterback to lead the offense in 2024.
