The Magnificent 7-Top Returning Running Backs in the Sun Belt Conference in 2023

Updated: Jul 18, 2023

The Sun Belt Conference is the highest-rated Group of Five conference in the country, one that sent half of its teams (7) bowling in 2022. If you look at position groups, there is talent everywhere on every team. So, a good place to start is the running back position. The Sun Belt returns some talented ball carriers in 2023.

Here is a look at the Magnificent 7.

Frank Gore, Jr., Southern Miss:

Gore is the top returning running back in the Sun Belt this season, after averaging 106 yards rushing per game and 6-yards per carry. He rushed for 1382 yards and 9 scores. Gore set a FBS bowl record (and a school record) with 329 rushing yards and a TD vs Rice in the Lending Tree Bowl. He also threw a TD pass in that game. Gore is the Swiss army knife for the Golden Eagles when used in the Super Back formation. You see, superheroes do not always wear capes.

LaDainian Webb, South Alabama:

Webb rushed for 1065 yards and 13 TDs for the Jags in 2022. Against Georgia Southern, he rushed for 247 yards on 35 carries (7-yard average) and 4 touchdowns.

Kimani Vidal, Troy:

Vidal ran for 1132 yards and 10 scores for the Trojans last season. He rushed for 200+ yards in two consecutive games: 242 yards, 2 TDs vs La-Monroe; and 208 yards and 4 TDs vs Arkansas State.

Jalen White, Georgia Southern:

White ran for 914 yards and 10 TDs in 2022, missing the last two games of the season. He scored 2 rushing touchdowns inn each of his first three games last year.

Lincoln Pare, Texas State:

Pare rushed for 772 yards and 5 TDs in San Marcos last year. He gained 221 yards and a touchdown vs La. Lafayette.

Nate Noel, Appalachian State:

Noel ran for 604 yards and 6 scores for the Mountaineers in 2022, and he averaged almost 7 yards per carry, and he missed three games last season. Against Georgia Southern, he averaged 14 yards per carry and scored 3 touchdowns.

Rasheen Ali, Marshall:

Ali played in only three games in 2022, after missing the first 10 games. He ran for 273 yards and a TD. In 2021, he rushed for 1401 yards and a whopping 23 scores. His high game that season was a 203-yard effort vs Charlotte. As you can see, the Sun Belt Conference will not be devoid of talented players who can tote the

rock.
