While star players and highlight-reel moments often dominate the headlines in college football, the success of many teams hinges on the contributions of unsung heroes. These are the players who may not always get the spotlight but are crucial to their team's performance and success.

This season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, several such players have stepped up, making significant impacts in their respective roles. Let's take a closer look at some of these unsung heroes.

Miami Hurricanes: Elijah Arroyo and Jalen Rivers

While much of the attention has been on Miami's (9-0, 5-0 conference) star quarterback Cam Ward and wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, tight end Elijah Arroyo has quietly become a reliable target in the Hurricanes' passing game. Arroyo has made crucial catches in key situations, often moving the chains and keeping drives alive. His touchdown catch with 26 seconds left against the Cal Golden Bears (4-4, 0-4 conference) capped off a 25-point comeback. His ability to block effectively in both the running and passing games has also been vital, providing versatility that is invaluable to Miami's offensive scheme.

Offensive linemen rarely get the recognition they deserve, but offensive tackle Jalen Rivers has been a cornerstone of Miami's offensive line. His consistent play has helped protect Cam Ward and open up running lanes for the Hurricanes' ground game. Rivers' ability to handle some of the best defensive linemen in the conference has been a key factor in Miami's offensive success.

SMU Mustangs: Ahmaad Moses

Safety Ahmaad Moses has been a standout defensive back for the SMU Mustangs (8-1, 5-0 conference) this season, making a significant impact on their defense. In SMU’s 66-21 victory against TCU (5-4, 3-3 conference), Moses recorded two interceptions, including one returned for a 60-yard touchdown.  Tied for second in the ACC with three interceptions, Moses has been a key playmaker. His ability to read the offense and make timely tackles has been instrumental in SMU's defensive success.

Pitt Panthers: Ben Sauls

On a team with quarterback Eli Holstein and his 2000-yard passing season and wide receiver Konata Mumpfield’s slick catches, kicker Ben Sauls has been a sometimes overlooked performer for Pitt (7-1, 3-1 conference) this season. Sauls has earned recognition as the midseason Lou Groza Award winner as the nation’s best kicker midway through the season. He has been instrumental in converting drives into points, converting 13 of 14  field goals and 35 of 35 extra points. His 58-yard field goal against California set a new school record and provided the winning margin in a close game. Sauls’ unwavering confidence and meticulous preparation have made him a reliable and vital asset to the team.

Clemson Tigers: Avieon Terrell

Avieon Terrell has been a reliable cornerback for the Clemson Tigers (6-2, 5-1 conference) this season, making a significant impact on their defense. As a sophomore, Terrell has already proven himself as one of the top cornerbacks in the ACC, recording 30 tackles, seven pass breakups, and two interceptions, a team high number. His ability to shut down opposing receivers and make crucial plays in key moments has been a massive contributor to Clemson's defensive success. Terrell's performance has drawn comparisons to his older brother, former Tiger and current Atlanta Falcons cornerback AJ Terrell. His consistency and skill have made him a key player in Clemson's secondary, helping the team maintain a strong defensive presence throughout the season.
