When looking at the results, the schedule appeared as advertised based on the final scores, but a few games held significance beyond the box scores in Week 2 of the college football season.

Games of the Week

No. 3 Texas 31, No. 10 Michigan 12

Among all the games this weekend, one game captured the attention of fans across the sports world due to the dominating performance of one team. The No. 3 Texas Longhorns (2-0) traveled to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on the No. 10 ranked Michigan Wolverines (1-1) and from the very start, it was clear Michigan is still still trying to find its offense through the first two games of the season.

Michigan's passing game was challenging, making its offense ineffective. Quarterback Davis Warren was unable to make an impact, making poor decisions that led to 2 interceptions and just 204 passing yards. These offensive struggles also seemed to affect the Wolverines' defense, as they gave up 389 yards of offense—which could have been worse had Texas not called off the dogs late in the game.

On the other hand, Texas performed exceptionally well. Quarterback Quinn Ewers was composed and demonstrated a masterclass, finishing the day 24-of-36 for 246 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. The Longhorns' offense dominated throughout, with the tight end room benefitting the most. TE Gunnar Helm led the team with 7 catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. The Longhorns defense was impressive, limiting the Wolverines to 284 yards of offense.

Michigan needs answers at the quarterback position, and their head coach, Sharrone Moore will have to seriously consider a change or even a philosophy change, too. The backup, Jack Tuttle, is not a passer but can affect the game with his legs, and maybe that can open up this offense.

No. 16 Oklahoma State 39, Arkansas Razorbacks, 31, 2OT

The early contest between the Arkansas Razorbacks (1-1) and the No. 16 Oklahoma State Cowboys (2-0) on Sept. 7 was a barn burner and a pleasure to watch. The Razorbacks dominated the game early by pounding the ball with their running backs, specifically Ja'Quinden Jackson and dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green.

The Cowboys couldn't get All-American running back Ollie Gordon II going, but he made the most of the carries given to him, which kept the defense honest. Quarterback Alan Bowman carried the offense with 326 passing yards. There wasn't much defense in this game, but safety Trey Rucker finished the game with 11 tackles.

The Cowboys secured a win with crucial scores from Gordon late in the game, which pushed it into overtime and sealed the win. However, the Razorbacks demonstrated their ability to win games in their conference by showing a strong running game.

Performances of the Week

RB Cameron Skattebo, Arizona State

In their victory over Mississippi State (1-1), the Sun Devils' running back was like a pure bowling ball, gaining 262 yards on 33 carries for ASU (2-0). In an era when many teams use the running back-by-committee approach, it is refreshing to see a team relying heavily on its lead horse.

QB DJ Lagway, Florida

Although playing against an FCS opponent in the Samford Bulldogs (0-2), the Gators (1-1) have ushered in a new era as Lagway made his first start of the season.

He showcased his five-star potential and talent with an 18-of-25, 456-yard, 3-touchdown performance. He should be the starter next week as Florida navigates through college football's toughest schedule.

Christian Ellis Safety, New Mexico

Ellis was a dominant force throughout the game for the Lobos (0-2), recording 19 tackles and an impressive 8 sacks in a loss against the No. 21-ranked Arizona Wildcats. His performance left fans in awe and prompted coaches to consider adding him to their rosters in this Transfer Portal era. It will be interesting to follow as the season continues.
