The Maxwell Football Club (MFC) hands out awards weekly throughout the college football season, celebrating the best offensive player (Maxwell Player of the Week) and the best defensive player (Bednarik Player of the Week). Here are the winners for Week 3.

Maxwell Player of the Week

QB Jalen Milroe, Alabama

The Alabama quarterback led the Crimson Tide on a rampage in Madison, Wis. against the Wisconsin Badgers on Sept. 14. Even with a full house in Camp Randall Stadium, Alabama dominated Wisconsin 42-10. Milroe played a large part in that as he had 5 total touchdowns in the game (3 passing, 2 rushing). He finished 12-of-17 passing for 196 yards before being taken out of the game. He also had 75 yards on the ground, leading Alabama in rushing yards as well.

In this game, it seemed that the Tide and Milroe finally found their groove. They had struggled against a feisty South Florida Bulls team on Sept. 7. The Bulls kept it within a single point until the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, Alabama scored 28 points to win the game 42-16, making the final score look completely misrepresentative of the first three quarters.

That was not the case against the Badgers. Alabama was up 21-3 at halftime with Milroe being involved in all 3 touchdowns. The Tide scored the only touchdown that Milroe wasn't involved in (a rush by running back Jam Miller) to make it 28-3. At that point, the Tide knew that they had won the game as the fans had started to exit the stands. Jalen Milroe fully deserves to be the Maxwell Player of the Week for Week 3 as he led the Crimson Tide through the air and on the ground.

Bednarik Player of the Week

DE Antwaun Powell-Ryland, Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies' defensive end had the game of his life against Old Dominion on Sept. 14 as the Monarchs hosted the Hokies. He had 4 sacks in the game, making Monarch quarterback Quinn Henicle's life miserable every time he dropped back to pass. Henicle was 5-of-12 passing on the day, throwing for 38 yards in the game. Powell-Ryland had a large hand in keeping the Old Dominion offense at bay.

Powell-Ryland finished with 6 solo tackles, 2 assists on tackles, 4 sacks and a forced fumble, leading the Hokies defense in all of the mentioned categories except for assists. Virginia Tech defeated ODU 37-17. It is no wonder that he was a lock for the Maxwell Football Club's selection for Week 3's Bednarik Player of the Week. Powell-Ryland also received honors as the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his contributions in their win.

It will be interesting to see if either Milroe or Powell-Ryland are back on this list in future weeks with the performances they had. It is not every day that a player scores 5 touchdowns or records 4 sacks by himself. If this keeps up, then they could be winning other awards that aren't just the weekly ones.
