Will Howard Commits to Ohio State: Seasoned Former Kansas State Wildcat Quarterback Heads to Columbus

The first big news for Ohio State and the transfer portal comes today as QB Will Howard from Kansas State is taking his talents to Columbus, Ohio.

An Intro to Will Howard...

The 6'5 QB from Downington, PA has chosen the Buckeyes in the portal over USC and Miami which he reportedly visited both schools. Howard was on a visit to Ohio State this past week and the report was he would commit to Ohio State once he took the visit. As a recruit, Will Howard was a 3-star QB and ranked 13th at his position in the class of 2020.

Howard transfers in with a Big 12 Championship under his belt which he won in the 2022 season and this past season he finished with a 9-4 record. Howard this past season accumulated stats of 2,643 passing yards and threw for 24 touchdowns with 10 interceptions on the year. Howard is a dual threat from the QB position. Since 2020 when he first started for Kansas State, Howard has rushed for over 921 yards on the ground and has scored 19 touchdowns.

What Does this mean Ohio State?

Ohio State did not exactly "wow" anyone in their bowl performance against Missouri prior to the new year. It was clear that after that game Ryan Day would seek portal help for some offensive help. Devin Brown went down early with injury so it is unfair to judge him just off of six throws and an injury that occurred in the first quarter of the game. Lincoln Kleinholz came in and finished the game at QB for the Buckeyes as a true freshman who only saw a handful of snaps in blowout wins for the Buckeyes down the stretch of the season.

Will Howard will provide some much-needed experience for the QB room at Ohio State and provide elite competition the Buckeyes will need with the experienced roster returning. His dual-threat ability also is a threat the Buckeyes have not seen in the QB room since Justin Fields was playing as well. If Treveyon Henderson returns for the Buckeyes this will certainly bring another element to the run game with Will Howard and Treveyon Henderson in the backfield that teams will have to respect moving forward.
